Senate impeachment trial of President Trump Day 1: Over 12 hours of debate, ‘pettifogging’ and foul language
Schiff’s claims Senate trial proceedings will be ‘a**backwards’
Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who has been a leader in the impeachment process in the House, denounced the approved Senate rules.
“When you hear them attack the House managers, what you’re really hearing is, ‘We don’t want to talk about the president’s guilt,’” Schiff said, according to Vanity Fair.
“We don’t want to talk about the McConnell resolution and how patently unfair it is. We don’t want to talk about how — pardon the expression — a**backwards it is to have a trial and then ask for witnesses.”
Schiff went on to tell people that “every time you hear them attacking the House managers, I want you to ask yourselves: away from what issue are they trying to distract me?”
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., said Wednesday on "Fox and Friends" that Schiff did not allow Republicans to call any witnesses during the House's proceedings which he led.
"If you think about this impeachment process has been going for 70-plus days. Yesterday was the first day that the president's legal team was even able to participate. That is unprecedented. That is not how the precedent was for both the Clinton and Nixon impeachments," Stefanik added.
"So the person who limited witnesses was Adam Schiff," she asserted. "This process has been unconstitutional, unfair, and unprecedented."
