Sharks Escape Into Mall: Massive Tank Cracks, Injuring 15 (PHOTO, VIDEO)
Sharks have escaped into a mall, causing mass panic among shoppers shocked at the extraordinary turn of events.
The incident took place on Dec. 26 in China after a huge tank containing sharks broke, allowing them to spill out into the shopping mall, sparking frenzied scenes among shoppers.
According to a Deadspin report, at least 15 people were injured in the incident as a number of sharks flooded with huge amounts of water across the shopping mall floor.
Hundreds of shoppers had gone to the Shanghai Orient Shopping Center to do some holiday shopping when the incident occurred.
It is said that various fish and turtles as well as three Lemon Sharks spilled out into the mall, with some shoppers being swept off their feet as more than 33 tons of water flooded onto the floor, causing extensive damage to the mall.
Various reports have stated that the sharks died in the incident and were unable to be saved in all the chaos.
The sharks were also said not to have been the cause of any of the injuries to shoppers, and that all 15 people were injured by the broken glass from the huge tank that had cracked and given way.
A mall spokesperson summed up the horror of shoppers and mall owners by clearly stating: "They are not going to build an aquarium again in the future," according to Deadspin.
It is unknown at this time why the tank structure gave way and it is not known whether the tank had been damaged in any way leading up to the incident. However, it is known that the tank, along with the fish, sharks and other water life had been in the center for the past two years prior to the incident taking place.
