Smartphone OS War: Android to Dominate iOS, Windows Phone 7

IDC (International Data Corporation)’s most recent press release regarding the worldwide growth of the smartphone market suggests that ‘Android’ by Google poses to dominate the smartphone operating system market atleast until 2015.

The June 2011 report presents the following stats on prominent mobile companies and the market share for their current operating system:

Google (Android) - 38.9%
RIM (Blackbery OS) – 14.2%
Nokia (Symbian) – 20.6%
Apple (iOS) – 18.2%
Microsoft (Windows Phone 7) 3.8%
Others – 4.3%

Google’s share of the market is expected to rise 4.9% from 38.9% to 43.8% in the next 5 years dominating the disputed OS market up atleast until 2015.

Apple’s iOS currently positioned in 2nd with 18.2%, is expected to be outperformed by Microsoft’s WP7, currently at 3.8%, in 2015 with an impressive 16.5% jump to 20.3% of the market share. It’s a big leap the Windows Phone 7 is expected to make in partnership with mobile-device-expert Nokia, both in transition to integrate operations and production.

RIM’s Blackberry OS is expected to maintain its position at four in 2015 despite its expected 0.8% slump in 2015.

The worldwide smartphone market is expected to grow 55% this year alone.
