Sofia Vergara Illness Serious? Actress Canceled Oscars Appearance

Sofia Vergara has caused concern among her fans after canceling her Oscars appearance due to an illness this week.

The "Modern Family" star was reportedly taken to the hospital for her condition and was believed to need surgery, but those rumors have been shot down.

"Watching the Oscars at home so I don't give anyone the flu haha," the actress posted to Twitter on Thursday along with a photo of herself in bed.

Furthermore, rumors that her flu was more serious than it was were also quelled by a source close to the Colombian actress.

"Sofia is fine and there is nothing to worry about," an insider told HuffPost Celebrity.

On Friday, Vergara was in high spirits as she was spotted on West Hollywood with her fiancé Nick Loeb. The illness must have struck sometime between Saturday and the awards ceremony on Sunday.

The 40-year-old actress is normally a fixture on awards shows' red carpets, including the Emmy Awards earlier this year. However, the Emmy's red carpet appearance did not come without obstacles for Vergara.

The actress accidentally ripped her Zuhair Murad gown during the event, but fortunately, an "emergency team" was able to stitch the gown back together in time for Vergara and the "Modern Family" cast to accept their Emmy Award.

Meanwhile, Vergara, who portrays Gloria Delgado-Prichett on "Modern Family," has been engaged to her businessman fiancé Loeb since July of last year.

The couple made headlines last month after tension arose in a Miami nightclub on New Year's Eve. The actress and her fiancé allegedly became embroiled in an argument in the early hours of the night while at the club Story, which ultimately resulted in their expulsion.

More recently, reports indicated that Vergara and her fiancé had entered couple's therapy, according to Star magazine.

"She decided they needed professional help before she would walk down the aisle," a source close to Vergara revealed to Star. "They had their first session over the phone- and so far, so good!"
