Sony Announces PS4 Exclusive 'Ghost of Tsushima,' Release Date Yet to be Revealed
Sony's upcoming samurai-inspired open-world game "Ghost of Tsushima" will be launching exclusively on PlayStation 4.
At the Paris Games Week 2017, Sony kicked off with a series of announcements for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4, one of which is the forthcoming samurai-themed title.
They launched its first cinematic trailer, revealing its setting and its synopsis. "Ghost of Tsushima" is set in feudal Japan, a time where samurais were prominently defenders of their nation. But in this particular year, in 1274, these renowned fighters face the Mongol Empire as they make their way from the island of Tsushima, wreaking and pillaging villages as they please.
Mongols rounded up Japanese villagers as they burned everything and everyone else to the ground. One of the villagers was a samurai, and was called out by one of the invaders.
"Do you know how I prepared for today," asked the Mongol. "I learned your language. I know your language, your traditions, your beliefs, which villages to tame and which to burn."
"So I ask you once again, samurai," he said. "Do you surrender?"
The obvious answer is he will not. In the game, the player gets to be one of the last samurais. And as expected of a hero, gamers will get to rise up and fight the invaders despite the odds. But to win against such a massive force, and reclaim the freedom of their country, one has to go beyond the traditions of samurai fighting and forge a new way, which is called the way of the ghost.
As of now, details about the gameplay remain scarce. More information should be revealed leading up to the game's release.
"Sly Cooper" and "Infamous" developers Sucker Punch Productions, a subsidiary of the tech giant Sony, are behind the development of "Ghost of Tsushima."
"Ghost of Tsushima" is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4. A release date has yet to be announced.
