Soul Surfer DVD Sparks Release of Church Growth Resources
“Soul Surfer,” the year’s most popular faith-based film, was recently released on DVD and brings with it resources based on the $42 million-grossing movie designed to help grow the church.
“Outreach Inc. is excited about the recent DVD release of 'Soul Surfer,' the number one faith based film of the year,” said Dave Bordon, director of publishing for Outreach Inc., to The Christian Post.
Outreach published the new resources and hopes that the film, which sports an all-star cast with actors such as Helen Hunt, Carrie Underwood and Dennis Quaid, can build up the faith of young people.
The movie is based on the real story of surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her arm in a shark attack and overcame odds to become a champion again despite the handicap.
“We got involved in publishing the resources around the 'Soul Surfer' movie because we believe in the powerful message of the film, and know that it will inspire and encourage many people to not give up, but to seek God’s direction in the midst of life’s challenges,” said Bordon.
The resources include a “Soul Surfer DVD based Study,” the “Soul Surfer Study Guide,” the “Soul Surfer Church Kit,” and the book Soul Surfer: Catching God’s Wave For Your Life.
“Individuals and small groups can engage by using the 'Soul Surfer' DVD-based Study,” Bordon said. “Congregations can use the 'Soul Surfer Church Kit' to launch a four-week campaign and invite their friends, family and neighbors to join in, making it a great outreach to the local community.”
According to Bordon, the final resource, Soul Surfer: Catching God’s Wave For Your Life, is a book aimed at teens and pre-teens and is designed to “encourage them to follow their dreams and develop an unwavering faith in God.”
Outreach’s mission is to help Christians share God’s love. It hopes to see spiritual conversions by planting seeds with the new resources.
