Soulja Boy Arrested on Weed Charges; Could It Lead to Better Movie Promotion?
Earlier this morning rapper Soulja Boy, real name DeAndrew Cortez Way, was arrested for weed possession.
Police officers found mass amounts of weed and at least $70,000 cash in his vehicle, according to TMZ.
The 21-year-old star was in the Temple Police Department in Georgia at 3:15 a.m. EST.
Driving in his Escalade with four other men, they were initially stopped for a traffic violation.
After finding "substantial amounts" of the drug in the car, Way and the four other men were arrested and placed in the county jail.
TMZ reported that an investigation was also underway, as police found firearms in the vehicle as well. It is unclear whether any of these men have a license for the weapons.
At 9:05 a.m. EST law enforcement told TMZ all five men were being arrested on charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of a firearm.
The driver of the Escalade was part of a car service – he was arrested as well.
This arrest came on the heels of Soulja Boy's new movie coming out today, "Soulja Boy: The Movie."
The rapper had 10 interviews in promotion of his documentary lined up today, and now that he's in jail some wonder if this is the best thing that could have happened to him.
The movie came out on DVD today and while the star is still in a Georgia jail, apparently his PR team is working desperately to make a new strategy to promote the movie.
Online blogs felt the unwanted attention coupled with the star's "mug shot" plastered over the Internet was the best publicity he could have gotten for the film.
Peter Spirer, the director of the movie told TMZ, "I'm not sure how this will affect the movie ... Hopefully he gets out from this situation to get his movie out everywhere like he wanted."
