Stacie Halas Fired From Teaching Over Porn Role
A school board in Oxnard, Calif., voted Wednesday night to fire a middle school science teacher after it became known that she once had a role as a porn actress.
The five-person Oxnard school board unanimously voted in favor of the dismissal of Stacie Halas, 31, who had been a science teacher at Richard B. Haydock Intermediate School for nearly three years.
Halas was put on leave last month when the Oxnard School District began investigating her allegations that she had appeared in pornographic films. Halas allegedly appeared in a porn film under the pseudonym "Tiffany X."
The investigation began when students came to school administrators to tell them they had seen a female teacher in a pornographic video.
Administrators were able to confirm the students' claims when teachers showed administrators the video via cellphone, Los Angeles-based news KTLA reports.
The young teacher now has thirty days to appeal her termination. She has yet to provide comment to news outlets in response to the school's decision.
The school district's Superintendent Jeff Chancer told Reuters that he believes Halas starred in the porn film before pursuing a teaching career, most likely in an effort to earn extra income.
Chancer told Reuters that at Wednesday's meeting, the district determined that Halas's past showed a display in dishonesty and immoral conduct, proving an evident unfitness for service.
"To have Ms. Halas back at school would cause continued distraction and disruption, and it would be difficult for the students to concentrate," Chancer told Reuters.
"I don't know Ms. Halas, but I feel badly for her," he added.
