'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Event Takes Huge Lightsaber Across the Sky
With roughly two months before the release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," Disney took the film's promotion to a higher level — literally speaking.
According to a Gamespot report, the company placed a massive lightsaber in the sky, right above the Sydney Harbour in Australia. The lightsaber measured 60 meters long and was suspended by a helicopter to keep it in place.
The spectacle was so impressive and mind-boggling, thanks to its 10,800 pieces of hand-soldered LEDs where the bright red light emanated. In addition, Punkee reported that Disney also used optical imaging technology that allowed them to project an image that could be seen by the public in 360-degrees fashion. The image carried a message, telling fans that tickets for the film are already on sale.

Apart from the lightsaber show, Disney also released the latest trailer for the film. Prior to the trailer's release, however, "The Last Jedi's" director Rian Johnson unveiled the film's latest poster, Polygon reported. It features key characters like General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) right in the middle while Rey (Daisy Ridley) is seen on the side with her lightsaber.
Right behind Rey is Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) while Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) clad in his hooded garment is seen on top. The new poster still retains that red theme that was also used in a poster released much earlier in April.
The film will also be the last time Princess Leia's final appearance. Lucasfilm confirmed earlier this year that they will no longer resurrect the character in Episode IX.
"We don't normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher's performance as Princess or General Leia Organa," read Lucasfilm's official statement.
"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is slated for release on Dec. 15. It will be followed by a sequel scheduled for December 2019.
