8. Lecrae loses tour date after tweeting that he’s done with ‘institutional, corporatized’ Christianity
Christian rapper Lecrae, who serves as co-owner and co-founder of Reach Records, sent out a tweet on Jan. 19 declaring that “once upon a time I thought I was done with Christianity.” His tweet clarified that “the reality was I was just done with the institutional, corporatized, gentrified, politicized, culturally exclusive version of it.”
In a follow-up tweet sent the following day, Lecrae announced that he had “just lost a show because of this,” adding: “point proven.”
The canceled event was part of his “We Are Unashamed Tour,” which was set to begin later in the year. He indicated in an interview with The Christian Post that “it was actually a tour date” that was canceled following his tweet. “Not only did it affect me, it affected all the artists on the tour,” he lamented.
