Terrell Owens Lending Support to Chad Johnson in Jail? Former Player Speaks to Johnson Behind Bars
Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens revealed that he visited longtime pal Chad Johnson in jail over the weekend, a few days after the troubled NFL star was sentence to 30 days in jail.
"Just visited the homie @ochocinco. He's in good spirits, he needs a haircut already tho. Lol. He sends his best regards to everyone," Owens posted to his Twitter account on Saturday.
"That was the 1st time ever visiting someone in jail & hopefully the last. That's not a place anyone wants to be regardless of how many days," Owens
Johnson, 35, was set to be released from the Broward courthouse after agreeing to a plea deal stemming from a 2012 domestic violence case. To show his appreciation for his lawyer's hard work he gave him a pat on the behind. The action elicited laughs from the audience, but not from Judge Kathleen McHugh.
Johnson tried to make light of the situation and apologized.
"I had no intent to make this a joke. It's not funny," Johnson said. "My life is in a shambles right now, and I try my best to laugh and to keep a smile on my face."
Defense lawyer Adam Swickle urged the judge to reconsider accepting the plea, but McHugh did not reconsider. Johnson pleaded guilty to violating his probation without a deal.
McHugh sentenced Johnson to 30 days in the Broward County Jail and extended his probation from Sept. 21 to Dec. 21.
The judge also ordered Johnson to perform 25 hours of community service and to undergo two counseling sessions per week.
Owens tried to express the seriousness of the nature and wanted to show his support for his incarcerated friend.
"Know that's not where anyone wants to be. I know he's only in the county jail but to someone that has never been locked up...Jail is Jail!" Owens added.
