Terrell Owens' Tough Year Before Emergency Hospitalization
Although there has yet to be confirmation concerning the emergency hospitalization of Terrell Owens, it is hard to deny that the free agent WR has had to overcome some obstacles as of late.
One day before he was reportedly rushed to the hospital for what some have speculated to be a pill overdose, Owens appeared in an ESPN interview speaking about issues taking place in his life.
“It's been a tough year ever since i left Cincinnati,” Owens told ESPN. “I've sustained a meniscus injury, shortly after that I sustained an ACL injury so really just going through that and going through some personal issues, personal problems within myself.”
One of Owens’ issues stem from a paternity battle with him and the mother of his five-year-old child, Melanie Paige Smith. Smith filed a civil suit in Fulton Superior Court on Aug. 9 after alleging that the now unemployed WR had missed his $5,000 court ordered payment and refused to do so in the future.
Owens spoke with ESPN about his recent financial issues that have been impacting him lately.
“I definitely have been going through a lot of personal problems and obviously I had a financial advisor that has misappropriated funds and taking advantage of a situation,” Owens told Smith.
In an episode of his VH1 reality television show, “The T.O. Show,” Owens spoke about financial issues that impacted his ability to make child support payments.
“Every time I call about my accounts or what have you, he's always gone,” Owens said about his financial advisor while on his show. “Football season is on a standstill, so I have no income at this point. None. On top of that we're talking about the mortgage of all the real estate that I do have and on top of that child support."
With the stresses taking place in his life, some are not shocked to hear about a potential pill overdose. In 2006, Owens was taken to a hospital after an alleged pill overdose that he claims was a misunderstanding.
“There was no suicide attempt,” Owens told reporters in a 2006 press conference. “The rumor of me getting my stomach pumped is untrue."
Although he denied suicide reports close to five years ago, Owens and his representatives have yet to confirm or deny the speculation on his hospitalization and overdosing on medication.
