Tesla Model S Specs Review: Consumer Reports Pulls Recommendation Due to 'Worse-Than-Average' Ratings

Consumer Reports is said to have cancelled its recommendation for the new Tesla Model S P85D allegedly for its "worse-than-average" rating based on a new report.

The Tesla Model S P85D, an upgraded full-sized five-door electric luxury liftback introduced by Tesla Motors in October 2014, was recently found to be a poorly reliable vehicle based on a new annual report released by US products review magazine, Consumer Reports.

Initially reviewed to have performed well in tests and earning a "perfect road-test score," the P85D electric sedan was further found to exhibit interior squeaks, and door handles that failed to deploy resulting to locking people out of their vehicles.

There have also been other issues which include warping brake discs, malfunctioning wipers, and alignment issues, which Consumer Reports detailed in a new report.

The magazine wasn't the only publication found to have published negative reviews of the all-wheel-drive electric sedan. L.A. Times also pointed out some of the luxury car's quality problems.

Since Consumer Reports pulled out its recommendation, Tesla's stocks have gone on a nosedive, falling as much as 10.3 percent as of Tuesday this week.

The review findings were based on interview resultsof over 1,400 Model S owners, who have pointed out a wide array of issues and complications they discovered, which include the electric sedan's drivetrain, which appears to be one of its main problems.

Issues regarding its power and charging equipment were also mentioned, as well as its oversized center console, and the squeaks, rattles, and leaks from its body and sunroof.

Compared with the previous year's model, the Tesla Model S P85D was rated lower in terms of its suspension systems, climate control, and steering.

As a result of consumer reviews, Tesla's Model S will be unable to receive its much-anticipated "recommended" stamp of approval from Consumer Reports for "meeting stringent testing, reliability, and safety standards."

A Tesla representative recently responded to the poor recommendation by pointing out that Consumer Reports still rated Tesla service and loyalty towards customers as among the best in the world, and that it was continuing to communicate closely with its customers to address issues and fix problems as painlessly as possible.
