Thanksgiving Day Deals at Walmart, CVS and Target
Families across the U.S. will sit down Thursday to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal and retailers like Walmart, CVS and Target want to help families save money on the meal, before they blow it all on Black Friday.
The average cost of a Thanksgiving meal – which includes turkey, stuffing, pie, potatoes and green beans – is just shy of $50, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. The cost increased from $43 last year, and has doubled since 1991. The cost of turkeys has increased almost 25 cents per pound since last November.
Experts estimate that Walmart will sell Thanksgiving Day materials for about 20 percent less than grocery stores.
Last minute turkey shoppers can get a 10-20 pound ButterBall Whole Turkey for $1.09 per pound at Walmart. At most Walmart stores, turkeys come with mail-in rebates and deals on products like gravy, vegetables and tableware.
Most grocery stores will offer comparable prices, but Walmart does offer a price match guarantee on their products.
Kroger sent coupons for free turkeys to cardholders earlier this year. Shop Rite will give a free turkey away to anyone who spent more than $300 at the store in the last month with their Price Plus card (no receipts necessary) and Food Lion will take $10 off any turkey with the purchase of $30 or more of groceries.
CVS has buy-one-get-one-free offers through Thanksgiving Day on cranberry sauce, batteries, chocolate and dozens of other items.
Target has deals on serving materials and cookware. Take 40 percent off a Corningware six-piece Ceramic Bowl Set. A Paula Deen 18-piece Cookware Set is less than $100, marked down from $140. And a 16-piece white dinnerware set is less than $50, marked down 10 percent.
Walmart has a Hamilton Beach Six-Quart Slow Cooker for $24 while in-store supplies last. The retail giant also has dishware collections for less than $50.
