'The Avengers 2' Cast Update: James Spader to Play Ultron
With the highly anticipated sequel to comic book action movie "The Avengers" on the way, fans are exited to learn about casting decision as they are made. And as of today, a huge role has been cast. It has been announced that James Spader will play Ultron.
James Spader, well-known for his roles on "The Practice," "Boston Legal," and most recently the NBC comedy "The Office," will play the government-created robot villain Ultron in "The Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron."
Writer and director of the film Joss Whedon recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his feelings on the Ultron character.
"As a character I love [Ultron] because he's so pissed off," Whedon said. Whedon went on to explain more of Ultron's character, and describe where his anger comes from.
"I knew right away what I wanted to do with him. He's always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's not a happy guy, which means he's an interesting guy. He's got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we'll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who's a witch," Joss Whedon told Entertainment Weekly.
"The Avengers 2" will also feature other super heros, including Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr., and Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth.
"The Avengers 2: The Age of Ultron" is set to come out in theaters everywhere in 2015.
