The Fray- Worst National Anthem Performance Ever? (VIDEO)

The Fray's performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" ahead of Monday's NCAA National Championship left many people offended.

Minutes after the song, "The National Anthem" became a trending topic on Twitter with users complaining about the performance.

There have been many complaints in the past about performances of the National Anthem, normally having to do with the song's lyrics being botched. Although The Fray's lead singer Isaac Slade knew the lyrics to the famous song, the band delivered an unexpected sound that did not resonate well with viewers.

The Denver natives attempted to transform the 198-year-old song into a rock song with "emo" vocals added.

"If you weren't listening to the lyrics, you'd have never known the band was singing our national anthem," reported Yahoo News.

Among the thousands of complaints that flooded Twitter about the performance, many people cited that the band's use of a coffee shop-like sound was in poor taste.

Users on the social media site responded to the performance almost unanimously negatively.

"I want to thank The Fray for performing the WORST rendition of the anthem ever," wrote Mike. "Putrid. Thanks guys!"

Robbie wrote, "Usually I like the fray but that national anthem was weak."

Wow," posted Marc. "The Fray must hate America. What a God-awful rendition of The Anthem."

Eric simply wrote, "The Fray Anthem Fail."

One day after the championship, users were still upset over the group's performance of The National Anthem.

"I'm still so offended by The Fray," wrote Farah on Tuesday.

"The Fray was arrested for treason after [last] night's national anthem," joked Mike.

"The Fray will be haunted by Francis Scott Key for the rest of their lives. @nationalanthem," Ryan wrote.

Twitter user Matt posted, "I'll never get those two minutes back that I had to spend watching The Fray's interpretation of the National Anthem last night. Never."

Austin asked, "I wonder how much The Fray's album sales have dropped in the past 12 hours?"
