'The Good Wife' Season 6 Spoilers: Finn to Return Next Season, Josh Charles Talks Will Gardner's Death
"The Good Wife" fans are still reeling over the action-packed season five, but there is a lot more excitement in store for season six of the drama this fall.
Fans of the CBS drama can already look forward to seeing a lot more of prosecutor in the State Attorney's Office Finn Polmar, portrayed by Matthew Goode. The actor was promoted to a series regular and became the center of a political crossfire in season five.
As previously reported, season six will include a "bigger battlefield" for the series main character, Alicia Florrick, portrayed by Julianna Marguiles. Executive producer of the series Robert King hinted at season six while discussing the finale of season five.
"It's not a cliffhanger in that, 'Oh, which way is Alicia going to choose,'" he explained to TVLine. "It's more a cliffhanger in that, 'Oh, now what does that mean? That's an interesting decision.' It's a cliffhanger of a new chapter opening in Alicia's life."
Meanwhile, during season five, "The Good Wife" underwent an unexpected change when actor Josh Charles decided to exit the series. Consequently, his character Will Gardner was shockingly killed. Recently opening up about his departure, Charles said he thought "long and hard" about the decision to leave "The Good Wife" at the height of his popularity on CBS.
"That's a really long time to be playing the same character and I can feel really blessed about it, but also I was eager to move on to something new," the actor told The Hollywood Reporter. "I always wanted to do right by the show, so if it meant finishing after a year or four, I would give them some [episodes] at the top of year five to help them figure out how to do it."
As it turned out, Charles appeared in a whopping 16 episodes into season five before bowing out.
"That was something I was game for because I wanted to leave the show in a good place, and felt really proud of the work we did, but it's a process you go through that it's hard to articulate exactly what is it," he said.
"You were bored out of your mind," actor Jeff Daniels laughingly interjected.
