The Land Where No Desire Goes Unfulfilled

"You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." (Psalm 16:11) Whenever you start to get bummed out by the disappointments or the distractions of life, try meditating on these two words...."eternal pleasures"....and see if that doesn't improve your vision and refocus your attitude.

Try to imagine an existence where you never have even one desire that goes unfulfilled. Do you have any idea what that kind of world will be like? How often do you allow that approaching reality to flood your heart and your mind?

Heaven is a land where no one experiences even one sinful desire to do something that offends God. Heaven is a land where you never wish for something you don't have....or feel like something might be missing in your life. Heaven is a land where you never get bored for even one second....let alone for an hour or a day. It never happens there....boredom only happens to us here on earth.

How can heaven have so much variety? How can there be that much peace? How can it really be that perfect? These questions stretch our thinking....and our believing....but they don't change the sensational and dazzling nature of heaven, and they don't stop God from eventually bringing all of His children into a full realization of this other worldly bliss.

God invites you to trust Him. You have not experienced heaven yet....only earth, which is also a place God created by the way. The Bible tells us that God has another place for His children that will blow your mind. Jesus called it a "place." (John 14:1-6) If you don't want to believe it, you are free to think that this is the best God can do....right here....this planet....but I am here to tell you....that you haven't seen anything yet.

How do I know that? Because God does not lie....in fact, it is impossible for Him to lie. (Hebrews 6:18) You don't have to believe that if you don't want to....you have a free will....God won't force you to go to the land where no desire goes unfulfilled. You are free to believe that your life on earth is the best thing you will ever experience....but if you do, I feel sorry for you. This earthly existence is lame when compared to heaven. This world was perfect....but then man sinned and everything got thrown out of whack.

You can pretend that heaven is not perfect....and that it is just a bunch of "pie in the sky" dreaming. You can choose to believe that the Bible is not inspired and did not come to us from the Creator of the universe. That is your choice. How sad if you allow yourself to settle for such a pointless existence. How sad if you choose to make this life your only "heaven."

Do you know why all of us experience unfulfilled desires? Because this life is only a tiny fraction of how good heaven will be for everyone who goes there. In addition to many wonderful experiences in this world, this life also contains much heartache....and disappointment....and temptation....and empty feelings....even for believers. As human beings, we all feel like this life is far from the utopia we crave and wish could exist right now. We long for something much greater....and much more satisfying. We long for a land where no desires go unfulfilled.

Someone on earth wins the lottery. Yippee. Another person purchases an exotic island. Cool. And yet another person lives in a $30 million mansion. Wow. Then what? Is that the best you've got? How pointless and empty....unless you can give me an experience that won't end....and won't get boring after awhile....and won't leave me feeling like I still haven't found what I'm looking for....can you do that? Of course not.

I'll stick with Jesus. He can do that....and more. He can take me to a land where I will never....and I mean never ever wish I could be somewhere else. I don't care who makes fun of that perspective. It just proves that they are choosing not to believe, and receive, and look forward to a place of eternal perfection. I feel sorry for people like that....you and I as believers are certainly not an ounce better than folks with that perspective....we're just better off....way better off.

I will see you on the other side. Jesus is already there....and also here right now....can you do that? Of course not. You are finite....and only your soul is eternal. You will find out just how eternal a few seconds after your body dies. Then you will know. Then you will be more alert than you ever were on earth....even if your final days are spent with alzheimer's or some other form of tragic mental fuzziness. You won't be fuzzy a few seconds after you die....and you will never be fuzzy from that moment on. You will exist forever, and there is not one little thing you can do to change the immortality of your soul. You will spend eternity with the Lord in perfection, or not....the alternative is horrible, and the Lord's perfect place is one where the joy is constantly overflowing.

Too good to be true? Nope. Too phenomenal to be false. Too spectacular to be just a story. Too breathtaking to be bunk. And too miraculous to be made up. The real fountain of youth is not a legendary spring. Jesus said, "Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14) Through faith in Christ, a person actually drinks this living water. Are you humble enough to believe, or too proud of your wisdom and your sophisticated view of life, philosophy, religion, and morality?

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3) Are you too old in your thinking to trust Christ as your Savior? Too set in your ways? Too brainwashed by the wisdom of the world? If so, I feel very sorry for you my friend. That is no way to live....and it is definitely no way to die.

There really is a land where no desire goes unfulfilled.

He took the nails so that you can go to this place. He took the pain so that you can be comforted forever. He went to the cross so that you can go to this land where you will never experience an unfulfilled desire. Believe it and receive it....or reject it and be forever dejected, miserable, and tormented. God loves you and He wants you to accept His gracious invitation. Will you do that in this moment? The moments of life eventually turn into the endlessness of eternity.

"You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." (Psalm 16:11) How persistently and how seriously do you look forward to going to that land as a believer in Jesus Christ? You would be way off track in your thinking to allow anything to rob you of that peace and the certainty of eternal paradise for all who know Christ personally.
