The Most Important Decision
Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. (Hebrews 13:17 NIV)
Former president Dwight Eisenhower once said, "Never let yourself be persuaded that any one Great Man, any one leader, is necessary to the salvation of America. When America consists of one leader and 158 million followers, it will no longer be America."
Our nation's population has grown considerably since the Eisenhower Administration, and sadly so has the willingness to accept sinful behavior. Immorality advertised every night on television today would have been unthinkable in the 1950s.
This trend has disturbed many and motivated them to get involved in the political process. Millions of voters will go to the polls today in hopes of selecting officials who can help turn America toward righteousness and justice.
While it is wise and important to elect moral leaders, Eisenhower was correct. No matter who serves as our president, the future of the United States will be determined by millions of individual decisions. Humanly speaking, our nation's fate, and each person's eternal destiny, depends on a willingness to accept and follow Jesus Christ. In that respect, every day is an election day-a time to repent and recommit ourselves to a higher power and to vote against our own selfish desires.
Prayer: Lord, help us to be obedient and give us the wisdom to make wise choices.
Used with permission.
