The actor went on to tease that the season five closer would include some "very very cool stuff with Damon, Elena, Bonnie- stuff you just didn't see." When asked if the finale was a cliffhanger, Somerhalder replied "definitely."

Additionally, executive producer Julie Plec recently teased fans with even more information about Damon in the finale.

"There's quite a lot of suffering and celebration in the last two episodes," she said. "Because of Marko's efforts to make the town of Mystic Falls a magic-free zone and the imminent destruction of the Other Side, lots of lives are in jeopardy and Damon has to, as he says, 'strap on his hero hair.'"

As for this week's installment to "Vampire Diaries," the synopsis and promo video for "Promised Land" revealed that Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) have found enemies in Liv and Luke who are chasing them down. While Elena and Stefan are hiding in a remote location together, Stefan takes a deeper look at Elena's relationship with Damon.

"The Vampire Diaries" airs Thursdays on The CW at 8 p.m. "Stefan and Elena become stranded in a remote location, after escaping from Markos, and he gets philosophical about her relationship with Damon. Meanwhile, Damon sets a trap for Markos; Bonnie admits that she's been keeping the truth about the Other Side from everyone; and Caroline witnesses an unthinkable act of violence by one of the Travelers."
