'The White Queen' Star Ben Lamb Talks History: I Didn't Know About the War of the Roses
"The White Queen" premiered on the Starz network this past Saturday, Aug. 10 to much critical acclaim. The show takes place during 15th century England, centers around the War of the Roses, and it seems the show is posed to be the next popular period drama on television. Star of the show Ben Lamb recently spoke of his experience of "The White Queen."
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Lamb, who plays Anthony Rivers on the show, discussed what it's like to work on the period drama. Those who aren't familiar with the history of the War of the Roses should not worry when watching "The White Queen," as Lamb himself admitted he did not know much about the history when the show began.
"I knew so little about the War of the Roses when I was first cast, just the rivalry between the Yorks and the Lancastrians," the star told Daily Mail.
As to what it's like to play out such a spirited rivalry, Lamb said it's not as easy as it may look.
"It's funny because although onscreen, me and the York brothers share a lot of friction, in real life we all get on really well," the actor explained.
While some are see "The White Queen" as too similar to other popular shows like HBO's "Game of Thrones" or "The Tudors," Lamb insists there is a difference as those HBO shows take place later in history.
"It's not a time period that has really been written about a lot or seen in entertainment, unlike the later period of the Tudors," Lamb said.
