'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers, Cast News: Adam Newman Role Still Vacant, Michael Muhney Refuses to Return?

"The Young and the Restless" showrunners including Jill Farren Phelps are experiencing difficulties in hiring a replacement actor for Michael Muhney in the role of Adam Newman.

"Y&R" fans have been anxiously awaiting the return of the beloved character to Genoa City after Muhney was fired from the role over six months ago. The actor exited the soap opera amidst sexual harassment accusations including the groping of cast member Hunter King (Summer Newman).

In March, it was revealed that Newman survived the fiery car crash, and "Y&R" showrunners were said to have held casting calls in search of a replacement actor in the role. However, executive producer Phelps has not been able to find a new actor willing to portray Adam in Muhney's place.

"The soap knows how pivotal a part Adam is to the Genoa City canvas, so they are taking every precaution possible to make certain that they find a talented young actor who will fit the role perfectly," CBS Soaps reported.

Making casting matters worse, Phelps and others at CBS did not anticipate the backlash that followed Muhney's firing, and many "Y&R" are still boycotting the soap opera and campaigning to get the actor rehired. Consequently, the CBS soap has lost over one million viewers in the last six months.

Meanwhile, fans continue to speculate on whether Muhney will be rehired or not. Last week, a report indicated that Phelps offered Muhney his job back at "Y&R," but the actor turned it down.

"Phelps realized she made a massive mistake in letting go one of the show's popular and talented actors," Highlight Hollywood reported. "She approached this actor to return. However, she made a colossal error of judgment … She made a terrible offer, and not only was she quickly rebuffed, but she was told that it is her incompetence in producing the show and bad writing and bad treatment of the show's actor … that is losing [the show] millions of viewers. Jill Farren Phelps is in real danger of losing her job."
