Third Day, Third Grammy
Two-time Grammy winner Third Day added one more to their pile on Sunday, bringing home their third from the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.
The Atlanta-based rockers won in the Pop Contemporary Gospel Album category with their RIAA Gold certified Wherever You Are. Overall, the band has had seven previous Grammy nominations.
Wherever You Are seemed to connect to our fans in a more meaningful way than any of our previous recordings, said Tai Anderson, bass player for the band, in CMCentral. To have it be recognized by the Grammys is an incredible affirmation for both the band and our fans.
Previously, the group had received the music award for two of their earlier RIAA Certified Gold albums Wire and Come Together. In total, Third Day has had six gold records and one platinum.
I always say the cliché It's great just to be nominated. And it's true. But I tell you what, it sure is more fun to win! explained lead singer Mac Powell in CMSpin. What an honor for us to win another Grammy! It doesn't get old!
Other accomplishments include 24 career Dove Awards, two consecutive American Music Award nods, and 24 No.1 radio singles.
The band is releasing their newest album, Chronology, Volume One , on Mar. 27 which features their music from 1996-2000. Included in the new project are early video footage of Powell and Mark Lee performing at their home church, band commentary on music videos, and brand new recordings of classic songs.
A follow up album, Chronology, Volume Two, highlighting their hits from 2001-2006 is slated to come out on Aug. 7. And it includes a full 10-year video documentary on the band.
Third Day, described as having a long range of sounds from rock, pop, and folk/acoustic to even country, is not currently touring, but they will make appearances at numerous upcoming festivals including Atlanta Fest, Ichthus Festival '07, and Creation Northeast in May and June.
