Tom Hardy Cast to Play Elton John in Upcoming Biopic
It has been announced that actor Tom Hardy will be playing the role of Elton John in the upcoming biography film entitled "Rocketman."
"Rocketman" was written by Lee Hall. Hall is no stranger to writing screenpalys as he also wrote the script for "Billy Elliot."
Rocket Pictures CEO and producer of "Rocketman" Steve Hamilton Shaw expressed his excitement in bringin Tom on board in a statement.
"Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton's story to life.We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board," the producer and CEO's statement said.
The CEO of Focus Features Peter Schlessel echoed Shaw's comments and excitement.
Schlessel said he is "confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton. This, in conjunction with the creative team led by Michael and Rocket Pictures, will provide the foundation for something that will be a unique cinematic event."
Tom Hardy has had numerous large roles in movies and TV. He is probably most well known for his role of Bane in the recent Batman movie "The Dark Night Rises." But it was his 2010 performance as Eames in the movie "Inception" that really put him on the map.
Before that, Hardy had recurring roles in a few television mini series. In 2009 he played the role of Freddie in the TV mini series "The Take." And in 2007 he played the role of Bill Sikes in a television series production of Oliver Twist.
The movie "Rocketman" is set to start filming sometime in 2014.
