Kamala Harris getting Communion from Whitmer

Trump joked that Harris was unable to attend the dinner because she was busy in Michigan receiving Communion from Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

Trump was referencing the recent backlash Whitmer faced last week after featuring in a viral video with feminist podcaster Liz Plank, during which the two appeared to mock the Eucharist with a Dorito.

The video, which drew condemnation from the Michigan Catholic Conference, showed Whitmer gazing into the camera while wearing a "Harris-Walz" hat after placing the chip on Plank's tongue in a way some critics condemned as blasphemous and vaguely "pornographic."

Whitmer issued a statement last weekend claiming the video was "misconstrued."

"Over 25 years in public service, I would never do something to denigrate someone’s faith. I’ve used my platform to stand up for people’s right to hold and practice their personal religious beliefs," she told Fox 2 Detroit.
