Top 6 political reactions to Matt Gaetz's nomination as attorney general
Marco Rubio: 'I like Matt a lot'
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., whom Trump nominated to be his secretary of state last week, was complimentary of Gaetz in a statement.
"I've known him for a long time, and again, I think the president is entitled to his team, and he's made his appointments," he said, according to ABC News.
"And so, I like Matt a lot. I know him very well, and I'm confident that if the Senate confirms him, he would do a good job. And again, the presidents are entitled to have the people that they want in these key positions to carry out the mandate that's been delivered to him by the voters of the United States," Rubio added.
Rubio, whom Trump battled and mocked as "Lil' Marco" during the 2016 GOP primary, has met with some criticism from conservatives amid his appointment as secretary of state, as noted by Newsweek.
"Marco Rubio is a disaster. Might as well give Liz Cheney the State Department. Awful sign," libertarian comedian Dave Smith wrote on X.
