Tracy Morgan Update: Actor Critical but Responsive, Doctors Working to Save His Leg

Actor Tracy Morgan is still in critical condition following a horrific accident on Saturday, but his publicist now says that Morgan is responsive, which is a good sign. Morgan has also undergone several operations to repair the damage done to his leg, which doctors seriously considered amputating.

"He has been more responsive, which is an incredibly encouraging sign," publicist Lewis Kay said on Sunday. "We expect him to remain in the hospital for several weeks."

Morgan suffered multiple injuries, including broken ribs, a broken nose, a broken leg and broken femur. The actor objected to having surgery to amputate his injured leg and made it clear that he wanted to have surgery, as many surgeries as it would take, to have the leg repaired. Doctors complied, and he is scheduled to have other operations, along with intense physical therapy, in order to regain use of his leg.

Tyrone Gale, the driver of Morgan's limousine bus, told Fox News about the horrific experience that occurred when the limousine slammed into a Wal-Mart tractor-trailer being driven by Kevin Roper.

"I climbed around and heard Tracey screaming for help. I climbed up on the body of the limo bus, but I couldn't reach them," Gale said.

Roper has been charged with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. He had not slept for over 24 hours, according to the court records. After the wreck, he turned himself into police and was released on $50,000 bail Saturday night. He has also been placed on administrative leave.

The company "will take full responsibility" if Roper is found guilty of the crime and the truck he was driving the vehicle that caused the accident, Wal-Mart president Bill Simon said in a statement. "This is a tragedy, and we are profoundly sorry that one of our trucks was involved," he said.

"The driver of the tractor-trailer failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead," Sgt. Gregory Williams told CNN. "At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedes limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturned."
