Treasure Hunter Located bin Laden; Hopes to Recover Body in June
An American treasure hunter has claimed that he knows where Osama bin Laden's body was laid down in the ocean. Treasure hunter Bill Warren, from California, has made the claim a year after the al Qaida leader was killed by a special Navy SEAL unit.
"I've located where it was thrown," Bill Warren told Spanish newspaper El Mundo of bin Laden's corpse. "I'm the only one with this information. It's 200 miles to the west of the Indian city of Surat."
Warren, a shipwreck hunter since the 1970s and a marine explorer, has said that he has been able to decipher the location using satellite images provided to him by a source at the Pentagon. He claims that one image shows soldiers laying a body out to sea at about 11 a.m. on May 2, 2011.
"He's at the bottom of the ocean and the soldiers put weights on him," Warren told the paper.
The treasure hunter has said that he does not trust the American government or U.S. President Obama regarding their the claims about bin Laden, and he would like to locate the body so DNA tests can be carried out to confirm the body does belong to the al Qaida mastermind.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has spoken about the sea burial earlier this week with NBC News' Brian Williams: "Obviously, [it's] never easy to see any dead body, but it was part of the job. I think we made the right decision not to sensationalize this, not to desecrate it, so to speak. His body was flown to a Navy ship. It was given a proper Islamic burial at sea and I think that we handled it exactly right."
Warren hopes to begin his search for bin Laden's body on June 1, and believes it would be possible to find the remains within a week. However, his distrust of the American government continues: "My only fear is that the U.S. will try to kill me. Or sink my ship. It's a huge risk. This zone is full of spy satellites. And you can't hide from America."
