The weekend is upon us, and those who are fortunate enough not to have work during the weekends have the luxury of watching a movie, or two, or even more. This weekend of May 13 to 15, there are two nationwide releases in theaters which include "Money Monster" and "The Darkness." According to a report in Metacritic, both releases are of the horror/thriller genre.
The thriller "Money Monster" stars George Clooney as Lee Gates, a host in a financial cable show who becomes a hostage of an angry investor character played by Jack O'Connell. Also starring Julia Roberts as the show's producer who helps Gates in the situation he is in, by finding out what happened to the investment in question. Notably, the film is directed by award-winning actress Jodie Foster.
"The Darkness" is headlined by Kevin Bacon and is a horror-thriller about a family who just came from a family vacation only to find out that they are "haunted by a supernatural force that preys on their fears and vulnerabilities."
The weekend also has several limited releases, some of which are also available as VOD releases. The Metacritic report, aside from listing them down, also indicated the film's rating according to the site.
Among the limited releases is "Love and Friendship" which is a film adaptation of a Jane Austen novella "Lady Susan." The film stars Kate Beckinsale as Lady Susan and Chloe Sevigny as Lady Susan's American best friend. The film will be released in Los Angeles and New York this weekend, according to Indiewire.
Another one is "The Lobster" which stars Colin Farrell as David, a divorcee who must find a mate in 45 days or he will become a lobster. Rachel Weisz also stars as David's love interest in the film.
"High-Rise" is another film that is being released this weekend, with big name stars such as Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Miller, Jeremy Irons, Elisabeth Moss, and Luke Evans. It is a movie based on the novel "A Field in England" by J.G. Ballard. Details on where it will be released are included in the Indiewire report.
