Verizon Unveling Its Latest Smartphone: The 'HTC Vigor'

Verizon Wireless' long rumored smartphone seems to now have an official name - the 'HTC Vigor.'

The cell phone carrier's new smartphone was recently leaked in a set of photos last week. The images reportedly reveal all of the "HTC Vigor's" specifications. It will run on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. It will also feature a 4.3-inch display with 720p resolution, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The “About” screen points to the device running HTC Sense 3.5 UI and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. More details about the phone pertain to its 16GB of internal storage as well as its full integration of Dr. Dre's "Beats Audio" technology. Verizon Wireless has been pegged as the company that will sell the handheld device.

The "Beats Audio" integration was revealed in a previous leak of several screenshots of boot screens for the HTC Vigor. Support for Verizon’s 4G LTE network was also seen in those same screens.

The "HTC Vigor" was originally thought to have been the codename and not the final product name for the new smartphone. Successive leaks suggested that Verizon Wireless was set to name the smartphone with several other titles: the "HTC Droid Incredible HD", the "HTC Thunderbolt 2", and the "HTC Rezound."

The "HTC Vigor" is rumored to be even more powerful than the "Droid Bionic" and "HTC ThunderBolt", due to its longer battery life and faster 4G LTE speeds.

Further proof of Verizon Wireless' connection to this smartphone is the company's listing of the "HTC Vigor's" planned accessories. Three items for the smartphone were recently shown being sold on the company's website.

Filed trademark names for the smartphone have also been spotted. The trademark for the name "Vigor" was apparently filed by HTC in 2009 while "HTC Rezound" was also trademarked earlier this year.

This next-generation smartphone is set to be HTC’s second 4G LTE smartphone. It comes right after the recent launch of the "HTC ThunderBolt", which is the first 4G LTE for both HTC and Verizon Wireless.

Official news of the smartphone should be coming soon, since the smartphone is rumored to be releasing on either Oct. 13 or Oct. 20 of this year.
