Warmest Spring on Record - Heatwave Weather Period Hits US
The United States has just had its hottest spring since records began according to federal records.
The Lower 48 states in the U.S. beat the next highest spring temperature record by a full two degrees when looking over the months of March, April and May.
The three month average temperature over spring 2012 measured in at 57.1 degrees, which is a staggering five degrees higher than the average for the period.

The three months in question are known by federal meteorologists as spring, and the new record is the most above average for any season on record in the United States.
May, in particular, was a month that boosted up the average and allowed the period to smash the record. It was the second warmest May in the United States since records began in 1895, with an average temperature of 64.3 degrees. The only May to beat this year's was way back in 1934.
Furthermore 2012 looks to be a record breaking year so far; the first five months of the year have also been the hottest start to the year since weather records began in the United States. However, the records do not just stop at 2012; the 12 month period since June 2011 is also the hottest 12 month period on record in United States weather history.
