'Wayward Pines' Season 2 Rumors: Hit Drama-Thriller Show May Not Be Renewed for Season 2
Fox's mystery-drama-thriller "Wayward Pines" is rumored to be facing the hatchet and may not be renewed for a second season.
The breakout hit series, "Wayward Pines," which premiered on Fox in May this year and ended its 10-episode first season in July is facing non-renewal for Season 2 despite favorable reviews from critics.
The show's executive producer, Chad Hodge has said chances of Fox renewing the show are slim after the first season covered most of the material it is based on – the book series written by mystery author, Blake Crouch.

According to Hodge, the show's renewal hinges on whether Hodge is willing to add another book to his trilogy after "Wayward Pines" depicted the show's protagonist, Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon) having sacrificed himself to save the First Generation children during the Season 1 finale.
With the Season 1 ending appearing to be a cliffhanger finale, audiences have been expecting the show to be renewed for Season 2, with Ethan's son taking over for the second season.
"Wayward Pines" director, M. Night Shyamalan has already revealed he and author Crouch have already discussed where the next season would be heading in the event Fox extends the series for another run, saying they both have an idea over what to implement for Season 2.
Initially intended as a miniseries, "Wayward Pines" may have a chance of proceeding to Season 2 should Crouch add to the mythology to further the book series. However, Shyamalan has admitted he is satisfied with the first season, particularly with the audience reaction at the end of the show's 10-episode run.
The show featured Dillon as Ethan Burke, an agent working with the U.S. Secret Service tasked to investigate the mysterious disappearance of two of his fellow agents in Wayward Pines, a small fictional town in Idaho, only to awaken after a car accident to find the townspeople trapped in a community unable to contact the outside world.
