What Do the 10 Largest Countries Search for in the Bible? (INFOGRAPHIC)
Bible Gateway, in conjunction with research agency GMI, analyzed the website's data to see what the 10 most populous countries in the world are searching for on its site.
The infographic below states that the most searched passages among the countries include Psalm 23, Genesis 1 and 1 Corinthians 13. Various selections from the Gospels are also in common between the 10 highly populated nations.
The United States is the only nation with Jeremiah 29:11 ("For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." NIV) in its top five. It's possibly a statement of the "American Dream," and that better days are always possible.
Indonesians appear to be more pragmatic as the only nation with Ecclesiastes 3 in its top five. The chapter is famous for Solomon's teaching that there is a time and season for everything (to be born, to die, to kill, to heal...). He also reminds readers that humans are "from the dust, and to dust all return" at the close of the chapter.
On the whole, searchers seem to be seeking positivity in the Bible. Common search terms include "guidance," "strength," "hope," "comfort," "love" and "refuge."
