What Impact Did Steve Jobs Have on Christianity?
Steve Jobs’ recent death has caused many to reflect on his impact in the world of technology, including the Christian community.
Bryan Cole, former VP of marketing for digital Christian publisher NOVO Ink, has seen the advancement of technology in the Christian community with Jobs’ products.
"Apple has developed not only the computers which are used by designers everywhere, but a lot of people use final cut pro which can produce movies, Christian films and Christian short films,” said Cole, now CEO of web-developing company Rev 21.
Cole told The Christian Post that he sees Jobs’ innovations helping to spread the word of God.
“There are other products, computers, Mac notebooks, iMacs…all that has been used for all kinds of creative stuff that has been used in churches,” Cole said. “All (of this is) for the same purpose. Our purpose is to spread the gospel.”
The designer and advertising photographer who is a member of his church’s worship band said these innovations have helped edify the body of Christ.
“I think ultimately the products that he has developed have tremendously impacted and been used through believers to impact the kingdom in many ways,” Cole said. “There has been a ton of design and websites built with them. All of those things work as tools for ministry to use for the kingdom.”
Although Jobs practiced the Buddhist religion, Cole said he was able to impact the Christian community in positive ways without realizing it.
“I have no idea if Steve Jobs or apple ever intended to spread the gospel but inadvertently they have done just that,” Cole said. “Their technology has allowed Christians to create all kinds of things to further the kingdom. You see a lot more people come to Christ. That's the reason that we share the gospel."
