Education and parental rights

Trump has introduced several “Agenda 47” proposals focused on education and parental rights. One of these plans includes allowing homeschool parents to use education savings accounts to cover up to $10,000 per year, per child, for homeschooling-related expenses. It also ensures that homeschool students have the same access to athletic programs, extracurricular activities, and educational field trips as students in public and private schools.

Another proposal calls for the creation of the American Academy, which he envisions as providing a “world-class education” that “will gather an entire universe of the highest quality educational content, covering the full spectrum of human knowledge and skills, and make that material available to every American citizen online for free.” Stressing that “it will be strictly non-political, and there will be no wokeness or jihadism allowed,” Trump indicated that he would fund the institution by taxing the endowments of major universities.

In a statement outlining “Ten Principles for Great Schools Leading to Great Jobs,” Trump declared an intention to “inform states and school districts that if any teacher or school suggests to a child that they could be trapped in the wrong body, they will be faced with severe consequences — including potential civil rights violations for sex discrimination and the elimination of federal funding.” He also expressed support for the promotion of “positive education about the nuclear family” and “the roles of mothers and fathers.”

“President Trump will cut federal funding for any school pushing Critical Race Theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content on our children — and he will pursue civil rights investigations into any school that engages in race-based discrimination,” the statement added.

The candidate also pledged to “reinstate the 1776 Commission, which he originally created but was disbanded by Joe Biden on his first day in office, to ensure America’s children learn the truth about their country’s history and the timeless principles of liberty and equality.”

Additional proposals include “the creation of a credentialing body to certify teachers who embrace patriotic values and support the American way of life,” the establishment of “funding preferences for schools that actively work to help students secure internships, part-time work, and summer jobs that will set them on the path to long and fulfilling careers” and the adoption of “a Parental Bill of Rights that includes complete curriculum transparency, and a form of universal school choice.”

During an interview with X CEO Elon Musk earlier this year, Trump proclaimed, “I want to close [the] Department of Education, [and] move education back to the states.”
