'Words cannot convey the sorrow': All 14 people killed in New Orleans terrorist attack identified

Brandon Taylor

A restaurant cook in the New Orleans area and a lover of rap music, 43-year-old Brandon Taylor has been identified as one of 14 victims of the terrorist attack on Bourbon Street. The victim was with his fiancée, Heather Genusa, 38, at the time of his death.

As NOLA.com reported on Friday, the couple were standing next to a boom lift when the pickup truck slammed into Taylor. Genusa had spotted the truck and managed to dodge it before it could hit her.

“The truck ran into the crane, and I’m pretty sure Brandon was right before the crane. He was the very last victim to be hit,” Genusa recalled. “When I got up and ran around the truck, his body was laying over the front, his legs were broken.”

The victim’s fiancée tried to resuscitate him as the suspect engaged in a shootout with police. Medical personnel eventually took Taylor's body from the scene.

“No one should ever have to die like that. He didn’t deserve it,” she added.

Taylor’s mother, 75-year-old Mary Guerrera, told NOLA.com that her son was a Christian man who loved music.

"It's been very difficult," the mother said Friday. "I'm pretty devastated, and I'm just trying to get through this."
