The Rt. Rev. J. Scott Barker of the Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, who was made a bishop in 2011, is one of the nominees for the head of the Episcopal Church.

Ordained in 1992, Barker received a bachelor of arts in Religious Studies from Yale College and a master's of divinity from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale.

According to his official biography, Barker serves on the Episcopal Church House of Bishops Planning Committee, the College for Bishops board and the board of the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry.

Barker also served for 10 years in the Diocese of New York after serving in Omaha for the first decade of his ministry. 

Barker also serves on the board of the River City Mixed Chorus, reportedly the largest LGBT chorus in Nebraska.

Barker has been married to Annie Barker since 1998 and is a father and grandfather.
