Why Terrell Owens' Suicide Attempt Is Believable

Terrell Owens’ representatives recently denied that he attempted suicide on Oct. 6, but the wide receiver’s past erratic behavior has caused some to still question his emotional stability.

TMZ released the 911 call made by Owens’ assistant after she said he took four prescription pills.

“My boss, he took four prescription pain pills,” said Owens’ assistant to the 911 operator. “I just don't know how many he's taken but he took them about 30 to 45 minutes ago.”

The assistant insinuated on the phone that Owens’ pill count should have been monitored after he was prescribed drugs for a knee injury.

"I knew I should have counted these,” the assistant told the 911 operator. “This is the bottle that I notice the most (pills) missing out of. These are all prescription.”

However Owens’ publicist, Diana Bianchini, said the suicide media headlines that flooded the internet on Thursday were false.

“Terrell Owens absolutely did not attempt suicide nor did he attempt to overdose on pills on October 6, 2011.Reports released today claiming he did are completely false and were made in relation to a 911 call his assistant made that evening," Bianchini said in a statement. "The facts are that she arrived at his home that evening after he had already taken a sleeping aid to fall asleep. He was unresponsive because of this.”

Owens’ publicist maintained that the wideout’s mental and physical health were both sound.

"As one can see from his workout televised this past Tuesday, he is strong both mentally and physically as well as 100 percent focused on playing football," Bianchini said.

Although Owens’ camp said he is in a good emotional state, the WR admitted to having issues in an interview with ESPN.

“It's been a tough year ever since I left Cincinnati,” Owens told ESPN early in October. “I've sustained a meniscus injury, shortly after that I sustained an ACL injury so really just going through that and going through some personal issues, personal problems within myself.”

Owens has made no secret about going through emotional issues. On his reality television series, “The T.O. Show,” the athlete has shed tears often. The 37-year-old free agent has attended therapy sessions on his show, and admitted to deep seeded issues stemming from growing up without a father.

“I never had a father figure to teach me the right things to do or to say," Owens told his therapist between tears.

Most recently, Owens said he had also been undergoing financial issues.

"I definitely have been going through a lot of personal problems and obviously I had a financial advisor that has misappropriated funds and taking advantage of a situation,” Owens told ESPN.

Fans of Owens identified with the polarizing figure on Twitter.

"My family is from Alabama,” one person wrote. “I understand Terrell Owens' tears.”

Another expressed joy for Owens realizing that his life was much greater than his struggles.

"Glad T.O is still alive. Its never that bad,” the fan tweeted. “Guess sometimes people forget how blessed they really are and just want to end it all."
