Wife Cooks $15K in Oven After Husband Hides it in Appliance
An Australian couple is $15,000 poorer after a woman accidentally cooked the money hidden by her husband. The man, who did not want to be identified, told authorities he thought the money would be safe in the oven since his wife never used it.
Unfortunately, the one time she decided to use the oven to fix chicken nuggets was the one time the money was in the appliance. Now the couple is $15,000 short and has nothing to show for it except some very expensive nuggets. "It was everything I had," he told ninemsn.com.
"I've got nothing to my name. That money was supposed to go towards my mortgage. I had a call from Westpac on Tuesday asking me when I would pay because I missed a payment on Monday. I told them, 'I'll pay tomorrow,' but then the money was burnt."

To make matters even worse, the couple missed its water payment and now has to live without water. Westpac bank, however, told the Herald Sun, "We will do whatever we can do within the guidelines to accept the damaged cash."
The woman felt incredibly guilty after learning of her mistake and told ninemsn, "I struggled to breathe. I said, 'I burnt the money, I burnt the money.' I felt like I was going to faint."
Her husband had received the large amount of cash after selling his car in order to make ends meet. He worked in the building industry, but due to the economy, was forced to find other ways to support the family.
"After a while it started to sink in," he explained. "You've got kids, a mortgage, a family car to run, and I'm thinking, 'What am I going to do?'"
According to the Reserve Bank of Australia, "If several pieces of the same banknote are presented, the Reserve Bank's policy is for each piece to be worth a share of the value in proportion to its size. The combined value paid should be the face value of the original banknote."
