William Shatner Creates Twitter Waves With 'Big Announcement'
“Star Trek” actor William Shatner made a splash on Twitter indicating a "big announcement."
The 80-year-old actor wrote on his Twitter account, “I’m making a BIG announcement at the Star Trek convention! Those attending will hear it first. Hope to see you there!”
On Sunday, Shatner announced the winners to his interactive contest The Captains, where winners received free giveaways via Facebook, Google +, and his official website.
Shatner has over 670,000 followers on Twitter, and his account biography reads, “Philanthropist, Actor, Producer, Father, Husband, and Grandfather.”
His teasing tweet had users and “Star Trek” fanatics frenzied, and he exceeded the 5000 maximum Google + permits.
“This is my G+ account. I apologize to those that circle me as I’m at the maximum the site allows,” Shatner wrote on Twitter Sunday.
Two-time Emmy Award winner, Shatner is preparing for “How Time Flies – An Evening With William Shatner,” a tour across his native country, Canada. The show, according to a news release, will take the audience “on a wild ride through his life and career and singing songs as only he can.”
His portrayal of James T. Kirk, captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, in the hit science fiction television show has made Shatner a cultural icon. He appeared in two of the six “Star Trek” television series and in seven of the eleven feature films.
After an impressive television career that spans over 60 years, Shatner has appeared on television dramas “The Practice” and “Boston Legal” as well as on the Discovery Channel’s series “Weird or What?”
Along with his work as an actor, musician, director, producer, Shatner is also an author and a celebrity pitch man. On his farm near Versailles, Kentucky, he breeds and raises American Saddlebreds as well as Quarter Horses.
