Windows Phone 7 to Take on Android, Says HTC

Handset maker, HTC has placed its confidence in Microsoft by issuing a statement concerning the next generation Windows OS for smartphones.

“We believe that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be better than other platforms and will give Android a run for its money,” said Melvin Chua, an HTC manager for Singapore at the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango launch event.

HTC is based out of Taiwan and is the second-largest smartphone vendor in the United States.

The company is now putting its faith in the new Windows Mango system which launched on select devices recently.

It seems that HTC wants to reduce its reliance on Google’s Android software which has been under heavy fire from companies such as Microsoft, Oracle and Apple.

Chua also stated that the Windows Phone platform already accounts for nearly one-third of HTC’s overall sales.

HTC might just be planning a 180-degree turn moving away from supporting mostly Android powered devices and recruiting more Windows phones for its inventory.

It has had enormous success with Google’s software but now seems to be losing faith in it which shows in these recent statements.

HTC’s chairwoman Cher Wang recently stated: “We (HTC) can use any OS we want.”

The company shipped 12.1 million phones during the June quarter, and reported a 104 percent annual and 19 percent sequential revenue increase.

HTC is currently engaged in a legal battle with Apple and also has to pay royalty fees to Microsoft for every Android handset the company sells.

HTC filed a lawsuit against Apple using Motorola patents Google transferred to them and those obtained via its $300 million acquisition of S3 Graphics.

HTC is set to release its Amaze smartphone on October 12 which will run on Android OS.
