Woman Mauled to Death by Pit Bulls During Morning Jog (VIDEO)

A woman jogging in Los Angeles was mauled to death by four pit balls, and police removed six pit bulls from a home in the area. It's unclear whether the dogs were the ones who participated in the attack, but police continue to investigate exactly what happened.

Officials said it appeared that the 63-year-old woman was attacked while out on a job Thursday morning. Witnesses tried to stop the dogs from attacking by making loud noises, but nothing deterred them and they continued their attack.

"So she stops, honks at the dogs … trying to scare them away," Lt. John Corona told KABC. "They turned and attacked her car, trying to bite the tires." Once a sheriff's deputy arrived on the scene, he opened fire on the one dog that began to charge at him.

"When the first deputy on scene saw one dog still attacking the woman, he tried to chase the dog away. The dog ran off into the desert, then turned around and attacked the deputy; the deputy fired a round at the dog and tried to kill the dog, and the dog took off into the desert," Corona told the press.

The woman died in the ambulance, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine exactly what caused her death. Her family told the police that she walked every day. Authorities, meanwhile, put the area of Littlerock on full alert and warned them to be on the lookout for the pack of dogs.

They later received information leading to the execution of a warrant on a home in the Littlerock area. They removed eight dogs, including six pit bulls, from the home. If the dogs were part of the attack, the owners could face charges; the dogs have been impounded by animal control.

"It's really scary," Diane Huffman told KABC. "I don't know what to think. I really think I'm going to be getting a gun to protect myself."
