World Series Game Six Postponed, Managers React

Game six of The World Series was postponed on Wednesday due to inclement weather.

In an email released by the Major League Baseball, the league said they preferred to resume the series on Thursday at 8 p.m.

“Given the desire to play a game of this magnitude without interruption, and an outlook with better conditions over the next two nights, Major League Baseball, along with the Cardinals and the Rangers, determined that making the decision early would be the most prudent course of action to allow fans enough time to plan accordingly,” said the email, according to USA Today.

Joe Torre, MLB executive vice president for baseball operations, said he was willing to wait for good weather to ensure that a quality game could take place.

"It just comes down to we didn't want to take a chance," said Torre, according to USA Today. "If the forecast wasn't good for tomorrow and Friday then the chances are we'd probably wait a little longer."

Torre also explained the difficulties of operating games in bad weather.

"As a manager, that last thing you want to do is get on the field, stop and pick up again," he said. "We've had that happen a couple of times this postseason already."

The MLB’s website detailed Torre’s decision-making process for cancelling the game.

"Peter Woodfork, and myself, and of course the Commissioner [were involved in the decision-making]," Torre said. "It was a conversation about whether you want to play in rain. I think everybody pretty much was in agreement with the fact, that because of all the forecasting ... the fact that we just didn't want to take a chance.”

Ron Washington, Rangers' manager, said he did not want to postpone the game, but he realized the importance of waiting for the right moment.

"We want to make sure the conditions are correct," said Washington in a press conference. "If we have to wait a day, we have to wait a day."

Tony La Russa, the Cardinals' manager, said he trusts the MLB's decision.

"They put all of the factors into it," said La Russa. "I just trust whatever they thing is best. I know they don't want to interrupt the game."
