Xbox One Backward Compatibility News: 137 Xbox 360 Games Listed (VIDEO)
The list of Xbox 360 games with Xbox One backward compatibility has grown to a total of 137 since the video game dashboard update was announced.
Following feedback from the community of Xbox gamers, Microsoft announced backward compatibility support for Xbox 360 games on Xbox One consoles during the Los Angeles E3 2015 in June, with a current total of 137 Xbox 360 games already prepped to have backward compatibility and expected to take effect when Microsoft launches its dashboard update in November.
The Xbox One console, which was launched in November 2013, did not feature backward compatibility with the earlier Xbox and Xbox 360 game consoles, thus preventing players from using the latter's game titles with the current gen gaming console via software emulation.
Based on player feedback, Microsoft announced its plans to introduce backward compatibility for Xbox 360 titles for Xbox One consoles at its June 2015 E3 press conference, adding that the update would be at no extra cost to users.
By November this year, a growing list of supported Xbox 360 games, which now number 137, will run within a video game console emulator to give players access to several Xbox One features, such as broadcasting gameplay, Game DVR, Twitch streaming, Snap, screenshots grabbing, and recording.
Xbox 360 games with backward compatibility will allow players to carry across their DLC add-ons, high scores, and achievements onto Xbox One consoles, as well as cross play with other players who are using Xbox 360 consoles.
While not all Xbox 360 titles will be supported by the upcoming dashboard update, a growing list of the last gen console's game titles have already added up, with 137 at the current count, including Irrational Games' "BioShock," Visceral Games' "Dead Space," Bethesda's "Fallout 3," Remedy's "Alan Wake," CD Projekt Red's "The Witcher II: Assassins of Kings," Gearbox Software's "Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway," BioWare's "Mass Effect," PlatinumGames' "Bayonetta," RedLynx and Ubisoft Shanghai's "Trials Evolution, and Darkworks and Ubisoft Shanghai's "I Am Alive," among others in the list.
As Xbox 360 game titles continue to be added on to the backward compatibility list, it is expected around 400 of the last gen console's biggest titles will be backwards compatible when Microsoft's dashboard update launches in November.
