An original official statement from Microsoft said:
"Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory. Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire."
The console's headset is reportedly able to filter out television noise along with picking up even the quietest commands from around the room.
Gamers without a headset will be able to have online chats through the Kinect feature and its microphone.
Ars Technica reports similar third party headsets could charge around $200.
Recent reports also indicated that a special adaptor will be made available for Xbox 360 users to make their old headsets compatible with the Xbox One.
A Twitter user by the name of @TheMVPPlaya asked Xbox executive Albert Penello, "Any news on an adapter for current gen hi-end gaming headsets to work on the Xbox One?" to which he replied, "Yes. We will have an adapter that allows current gaming headsets to work."
