Alex Rodriguez Injury: A-Rod Returns From Rehab Assignment on Monday

An Alex Rodriguez injury return is expected for this up coming Monday game against the Texas Rangers after the player missed the entire season thus far due to hip surgery.

The New York Yankees third baseman made an appearance on New York sports station WFAN, where he told host Mike Francesca that he expected to be back Monday, which would mean his rehab assignment was successful.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed A-Rod's comments to ESPN New York.

"That's the hope. Let's get through the weekend and see where he is at and see if he is major league able," he said.

The ball player is expected to be slotted back into third base, with the occasional spot at designated hitter to for a semi-day off. He has played seven of his 10 games in rehab at third, so, all indicators say he is ready go, according to SBNation.

A-Rod's replacements at third have not fared to well at the plate, as combined numbers put them below a batting average of .220 with just a .295 on base percentage. Although A-rod's numbers have not been too stellar in the minors at just 5 for 28 with a home run, he expects to be locked in once he's back to familiar territory.

In other news, Rodriguez has been linked to the Biogenesis human growth hormone scandal, and could face an MLB suspension of 100 games soon.

ESPN reported that as many as 20 player suspensions could be occurring in the days following the All-Star break. The most notable names were Ryan braun and Alex Rodriguez. Others on the list were: Nelson Cruz, Bartolo Colon, Melky Cabrera, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera.

"Under the MLB drug policy, suspensions levied for failed drug tests are supposed to be kept confidential until the appeal process is completed and denied. Because the names of players connected to Biogenesis have been made public, however, MLB intends to announce any suspensions en masse before appeals," JSOnline reported.
