Angelina Jolie Mastectomy: 'Decision Was Not Made Overnight,' Says Surgeon
Earlier this year famed actress Angelina Jolie underwent a double mastectomy surgery. She had learned she had over 85 percent chance of developing breast cancer, and had a family history of the disease. The double mastectomy was a preventative measure. Now, Jolie's surgeon, Dr. Kristi Funk, has offered comments on the actress's procedure.
Recently Dr. Funk sat down with "Extra's" Mario Lopez for an interview. Dr. Funk insisted that Jolie weighed the decision heavily before concluding that getting the double mastectomy was her best route.
"She didn't have [a decision] right away, but probably knew with her family history that it was a choice she would eventually make," Dr. Funk said.

Dr. Funk added that Jolie was very level-headed and not motivated by pure emotion.
"Her decision was not made overnight. It wasn't based in fear," Dr. Funk told Lopez.
During her "Extra" interview, the famed breast cancer surgeon also praised Jolie for her charity work.
Jolie "is just philanthropic at the core and she could never keep it a secret and be who she is. She is someone who wants to save lives and she is doing that every day," the doctor said.
Dr. Funk previously provided comments about Jolie and her decision to undergo the operation with Los Angeles Magazine.
"She is intensely private, but she calculated the moment when she would be ready to reveal something to personal. She knew always that in her philanthropic core she couldn't keep this a secret and be who she is," Doctor Funk told the magazine.
