Batman: Arkham Origins will Focus on 2nd Year as a Hero and Relationship with Commissioner Gordon

Batman: Arkham Origins does not tell the typical Batman story, instead it bypasses the well know beginnings of the crime fighter and jumps to year two.

"So choosing Year Two was a very concerted effort on our part to take a point in time in Batman's career where, he's got some gadgets, his moves, more or less, are starting to become refined, he's got a cool suit, he's been doing it for long enough that he's got confidence, that you're in the skin of this empowering character, and yet we can run him through the gamut, we can put him through a pressure cooker unlike anything he's ever faced before because it's early enough in his career that he hasn't faced some of these defining challenges," said Ben Mattes, WB Montreal's Senior Producer to OXM.uk.

He said many of the material in the "Year One" story of Batman were not good scenarios for a gamer to play through. It was a lot of backstory and struggles to find out who Bruce Wayne was.

"...And we get to tell the story of the night, the series of events that forces him to evolve, to go beyond being just a vigilante who's obsessed with vengeance and stopping petty crime on the streets to the Dark Knight, the kind of guy who on any given night in Gotham may just as likely come across an assassin who's after his head for glory or money as he is a mugging of a little old lady," he continued.

Mattes did state some ideas from "Year One" were used, such as the relationship Batman has with the police and Captain James Gordon (not Commissioner yet). This will play an integral part to the forthcoming game.

Recently, two names of other key characters in the game were released, Barbara Gordon (the future Batgirl) and villain, Killer Croc.

Killer had previously been in the first two games. Croc's name was accidentally leaked on an achievements list for the game and his name being used on the Soundtrack song listing.

"In Batman: Arkham Origins, players are introduced to a teenage girl by the name of Barbara - someone who fans will later come to know as Oracle. As the daughter of police captain James Gordon, Barb meets Gotham's mysterious masked vigilante for the first time," the game's Instagram account posted.

Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on Oct. 25 for Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
