Carrie is alone with no Saul or Peter to help her in Season 5 of 'Homeland'

"Homeland" Season 5 will start after a two-and-a-half year time gap after the events of the Season 4 finale. Carrie's daughter is a bit grown up now, she is no longer with the CIA, but for how long, people wonder. Carrie Mathison is now a security specialist for German philanthropist Otto Düring, who will turn out to be the season's main antagonist. With no CIA to back her, will Saul and Peter help Carrie or will it be Carrie vs. Saul and Peter?

After Season 3's shocking public execution of Carrie's beloved, Brody, viewers thought they couldn't be more shocked. But Season 4 proved more traumatic. Carrie tried to kill her own baby, the sudden killing of Aayan by his own uncle, the daring Embassy takeover, the very grisly killing of Carrie's predecessor in Karachi and the fact that Saul has been compromised, and an already unstable Carrie had her pills switched by the ISI. What more, viewers ask?

What will Carrie undergo in Season 5? The official synopsis is brief: "The game has changed for Carrie Mathison. Out of the CIA and living in Berlin, Carrie is trying to start a new life but realizes now she is the one with a target on her back. As the danger intensifies, and without Saul and Quinn to rely on, one thing becomes clear, she has never been at greater risk or with more to lose."

No longer with the CIA, Carrie Mathison relocates to Europe and now works as a security specialist for German philanthropist Otto Düring. During her work, she has to accompany the billionaire to a war zone in Lebanon. Slowly, it turns out that the billionaire is Enemy No. 1.

With nobody at her side, Carrie has to negotiate the twists and turns alone. How will her fragile mental state take all this? In the trailer, Carrie says, "Maybe I knew someday the past would catch up with me."

The trailer gives viewers plenty of reasons to believe that this season of "Homeland" is not only going to be action-filled but again, an emotional journey too.
