Cyber Monday MacBook Air Prices Drop, New Version to Debut Early 2012

Apple’s MacBook Air dropped significantly in prices for Cyber Monday in preparation for the release of a new version of the company’s lightest laptop.

MacBook Air prices dropped starting Cyber Monday, and should continue past the holidays until the new laptop’s release. The 11.6-inch version of the lightweight laptop normally ships for $999, but now it has been reduced to $939.94 at MacMall.

Best Buy also lowered offers on the MacBook Air, managing a $150 price cut, bringing the technology to $849.99. This is a great bargain for end-of-the-year shoppers looking for computers.

However, some users complained that the Air is a tad bit on the small side, so shoppers may want to wait for the newest version of the computer, a 15-inch MacBook Air.

DigiTimes reportedly heard from Apple parts suppliers that the California technology company plans to completely remodel the MacBook Air lineup. This information fits consistently with prevalent rumor that Apple will refresh its entire line of computers for 2012, including the iMac, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air.

Besides the 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Air models, a 15-inch screen will be added to the third installment of the super-light computer.

In addition, the newest Airs could have quad core Ivy Bridge i7 CPUs. The processor, produced by Intel, would manage to operate with 10 watts less of power consumption, which was an obstacle to ultrathin quad core portable laptops. This update, if given to the MacBook Airs, would considerably increase CPU and GPU speed.

Previous reports by DigiTimes said that consumers would have to wait a while before the newest MacBook Air was revealed. Estimates of a holiday season 2012 announcement could encourage buyers to get their computers now, while prices are low.

However, new reports by the technology website suggest that Apple could be releasing the newest MacBook Air in the first quarter of 2012, perhaps as early as March.

With this information on hand, it will be up to the customer whether to take advantage of Cyber Monday’s MacBook Air deals, or wait for the impressive upgrade next year.
